Eric Yttri
New insights to the corticostriatal control of movement speed and initiation.
Research in the Yttri Lab uses electrophysiological, behavioral, and computational tools to delineate a specific role for each individual cell type in the motor system, specifically the basal ganglia, motor cortex, and dopaminergic neurons. Recent work has expanded from bidirectional kinematic changes via adaptive stimulation paradigms to uncovering the mechanisms underlying freezing of gait and paradoxical kinesia. He aims to leverage these findings into new therapeutic strategies for movement disorders, improving deep brain stimulators in collaboration with neurosurgeons and neurologists.
