Arian Memarpouri Wins Best Master’s Thesis Award at Leiden University
TRR 295 ReTune is proud to announce that Arian Memarpouri, a member of the ReTune research community, has been awarded the Best Master’s Thesis Prize by the Faculty of Psychology at Leiden University. This prestigious award recognizes outstanding research conducted within the university’s research master’s programs.
Arian Memarpouri’s thesis, titled “The Effects of Cognitive Load and Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) on Motor and Cognitive Performance in Parkinson’s Disease”, explores the interplay between cognitive demands and DBS in patients with Parkinson’s Disease (PwPD). His study, which involved eight PwPD with DBS implants, examined how cognitive load and stimulation settings influence both motor and cognitive performance. The findings revealed that high cognitive load impaired both movement and cognition, while DBS significantly improved motor function without affecting cognitive performance.
The results emphasize the importance of personalized treatment approaches for Parkinson’s patients, especially in complex, real-world tasks that require simultaneous motor and cognitive engagement.
The award highlights the impact of Arian Memarpouri’s research in advancing our understanding of DBS and cognitive load interactions in movement disorders. We congratulate him on this achievement and look forward to his future contributions in the field!
